TPC awarded 5-star project in Namibia

The Parker Company, USA has been selected to provide FF&E and OS&E purchasing services for a new luxury hotel currently under construction in Namibia. The exclusive Eliakim Namundjebo Plaza will form part of the mega Freedom Plaza complex in Windhoek, which also includes an apartment and office section featuring trendy lofts and exclusive penthouses. In addition to 125 deluxe rooms, a presidential suite, health spa, casino and integrated restaurants and shops, the hyper modern complex provides ample facilities for meetings, congresses and functions of all sizes. Haddis Tilahun, Executive Director of the United Africa Group (UAG), a Namibian company to which the Protea Hotels group also belongs, looks forward to strengthening Namibia’s position as a dynamic business destination with the big-ticket project: “The hotel will lend the country added class and charm, making it even more attractive for holidaymakers and for business and incentive travelers alike.” The five-star boutique hotel is expected to cost in the region of 180 million Namibia dollars.

Eliakim Namundjebo Plaza Hotel will be joined in Freedom Plaza by four premium-grade office towers spanning some 35,000m2, three trendy residential apartment blocks including 180 airy lofts and exclusive penthouses, and 8,000m2 of convenient retail and 2,000 parking bays to meet the everyday needs of those living, working, enjoying and meeting in this top-notch cosmopolitan destination. The public space linking all these ingredients will offer an unsurpassed social experience.

The hotel’s internal design will reflect influences unique to Namibia and invite nature indoors using a uniquely inspired color palate, local materials and textures. Generous public spaces will mirror the expanse of the great Namibian landscape. Light and glass – clear, colored, opaque and sandblasted — are two of the major elements to be applied together with a mixture of Namibian stone and timber and other distinguishing features.

Respecting the environment is integral to the development of the Eliakim Namundjebo Plaza Hotel. The hotel will have solar panels, green roofs and solar control whilst making use of intelligent lighting, thermal and colored glass and the use of evaporative cooling for the hotel’s passive cooling is also being investigated.

The construction phase of the development is going to create thousands of jobs and numerous opportunities for Namibian businesses, with the ongoing operations of the hotels, shops and restaurants creating sustainable economic advancement for hundreds of families within the community.
