OVERVIEW

SHINOLA SHINES IN DETROIT

Luxury watchmaker Shinola recently opened its first-ever hotel in its home city of Detroit. Designed by New York-based Gachot Studios, local firm Kraemer Design Group and purchased by The Parker Company, the 129-key, eight-story project marries two restored buildings, the T.B. Rayl & Co. department store and a former Singer sewing-machine store.

Guestrooms showcase interiors grounded in a residential feel. Bespoke marbleized wallpaper is inspired by an original wallpaper found buried in the original Rayl’s building. Blankets, woven in the U.S., are adorned with a signature Shinola Hotel stripe pattern with custom bathroom fixtures that nod to the caseback details of Shinola’s luxury watches.

The hotel also features six F&B outlets, event areas, a conservatory and 16,000 sq. ft. of retail space. 1
